University of Lucknow observed WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY under the able guidance of Dr. Archana Shukla, Co-ordinator, Department of Psychology and Dr. Megha Singh, Organizing Secretary of the event, with the theme Creating Hope through Action.
The opening ceremony was addressed by Dr. Archana Shukla proceeded by blessings of Prof Prem Suman Sharma, Head of the department wherein she quoted about the importance of suicide prevention day and how the youth should take a step ahead to prevent it.
Thereafter the chief speaker of the event Dr Adarsh Tripathi, Additional Professor, Department of Psychiatry, KGMU, Lucknow addressed the gathering and brought to light issues of great importance, he mentioned about suicide autopsy and the delicacies of it, he also mentioned about various ways in which we can help a person with suicidal thoughts, the event was then forwarded by beautiful poetry recitations.
An important event that took place was the power point presentation by students of the department of Psychology.
The webinar was attended by almost 80 students , which was a huge success. Prize winning posters and slogans were displayed , enhancing greater awareness.
Prof Rakesh Chandra, Dean , Academics , University of Lucknow , blessed these students and brought to limelight the gravity of suicide and suicidal thoughts and ways to prevent it. A live discussion through mentimeter took place which brought forward important issues about various aspects of suicide, it’s causes and it’s prevention , motivating others to seek help when in need.The event came to an end with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Megha Singh.
