Mumbai city body burned through ₹21,000 crore on streets in 24 years, uncovers RTI

Mumbai: In answer to a Right to Information (RTI) application, the information given by the city body shows that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has spent an aggregate of 21,000 crore rupees over the most recent 24 years. The 21,000 crores were spent on the maintenance, support, and development of new streets.

As indicated by the reports, the most extreme cash was spent between 2013 – 2014, representing Rs. 3,201 crores. After this, the street trick became visible the next year, bringing up issues over the consumption.

As indicated by the report by TOI on July 27 on potholes, Andheri MLA Ameet Satam said this January; the BMC said its street office had spent more than Rs. 21,000 crore since 1997, in the answer given to his RTI supplication looking for insights concerning it.

“Awful streets are among the most squeezing issues around here, yet their condition has not changed for quite a long time. There are various purposes behind this, one being an absence of coordination between different utility offices and the BMC. Thus, when a street is recently made, the extremely one year from now it is burrowed for laying of links. Another issue is that no significant street development organization approaches to take up functions as the delicate size is tiny for them. Also, they are reluctant as they believe they might need to lube palms at various levels,” said Satam.

As per the BMC’s pothole protests site’s information, the number has ascended to 437, contrasted and 315 out of 2020.

Specialists considered it an endless loop as they said one, sufficient quality checks are not done when a street is fixed, two, nobody requests the best quality work for the huge measure of cash spent, and three, traffic is just developing, putting a more huge burden on city streets, which go n to foster potholes or even lopsided patches in a couple of years after fixes.
