Karan Johar was honoured with the fourth-highest civilian honour, Padma Shri award, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. President Ram Nath Kovind presented this ward to Karan Johar for his contribution to the field of performing arts. For the special occasion, Karan Johar dressed up in a stylish all-black ensemble. Penning a note post receiving the award, Karan Johar wrote, “Today felt surreal! I am honoured and humbled that the prestigious Padma Shri Award was bestowed on me. I feel extremely fortunate to receive it from the hands of our honourable President Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
This is a momumental day for me, my mother, my kids and my company, and will forever be etched in my memory. Thank you so much for all your wishes and the abundance of love!”
On January 26, 2020, it was announced that Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor will be honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award for their contribution in the field of performing arts. Soon after the announcement, an elated Karan Johar had shared on Twitter, “It’s not very often that I am at a loss for words, but this is one such occasion…The PadmaShri. Such an honour to receive one of the civilan awards in the country. Overwhelmed by so many emotions right now. Humbled, elated and also thankful for the opportunity to live my dream every day, to create and to entertain.
