German health authorities have said that that the country registered a record 50,196 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday. It is the first time Germany has exceeded 50,000 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. A virologist said that the country could witness as many as 100,000 more deaths from the virus and called for urgent action.
