The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to grant protection to witnesses of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, in which eight people were killed. The court also sought a separate status report on deaths of four people, including a local journalist, in the incident. The state government said 164 statements of 30 people have been recorded so far.
