Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyes were donated after his death, just like his father Dr Rajkumar in 2006 and his mother Parvathamma in 2017. After his death on October 29, Dr Bhujang Shetty got a call from Raghavendra Rajkumar to retrieve his brother’s eyes for donation. Dr Shetty is the same doctor who retrieved the eyes of both Dr Rajkumar in 2006 and Parvathamma in 2017. Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyes were given to the Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank (Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital) located in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru. Dr Shetty is the founder and chairman of Narayana Nethralaya that owns the eye bank.
Dr Rajkumar, father of Puneeth Rajkumar, had pledged the eyes of his entire family during the inaugural function of the eye bank, which was named after him, in 1994. His father’s pledge had brought about a whole wave of eye donations back then.
Puneeth Rajkumar will be cremated with full state honours on October 31, Sunday. The cremation will happen at Bengaluru’s Kanteerava studio next to his father’s memorial.
Puneeth Rajkumar is survived by his wife Ashwini Revanth and two children, Drithi and Vandhitha.
